Good news for Shangri-La Frontier fans: Season 3 is now officially scheduled to premiere in January 2027 in Japan.
The announcement was confirmed on the anime’s official website alongside a brand-new teaser visual featuring Sunraku in several of his iconic appearances.
Following an outstanding second season, Rakuro Hizutome’s adventure is set to continue with one of the most anticipated story arcs in the series.
When is Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 coming out?
Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 will premiere in January 2027 in Japan.
While the exact premiere date has not yet been revealed, the anime is expected to be part of the Winter 2027 anime season.
No international streaming date has been announced at the time of writing.
A New Teaser Visual Has Been Revealed
Alongside the announcement, the production committee released a brand-new promotional visual.
The illustration features Sunraku in several different appearances:
- Rakuro Hizutome wearing civilian clothes
- Sunraku in his traditional Shangri-La Frontier outfit
- His Galaxia Heroes: Chaos equipment
The visual highlights the next phase of the story while showcasing the different worlds explored by the protagonist.
The Galaxia Heroes: Chaos Tournament Begins
Season 3 will continue immediately after the ending of Season 2.
Rakuro joins the Galaxia Heroes: Chaos (GGC) tournament, one of the biggest esports competitions in the series.
Together with Pencilgon and Megumi Natsume, he becomes part of the Nitro Squad to face the American team Star Rain, led by the legendary Silvi.
However, an unexpected event forces Kei Uomi to temporarily leave the competition, putting the entire team in a difficult situation.
The upcoming season is expected to place an even stronger emphasis on competitive gaming and team strategy, two aspects that have made Shangri-La Frontier stand out among modern gaming anime.
Which chapter should I start with after season 2 of the Shangri-La Frontier anime?
Shangri-La Frontier is a Japanese web novel written by Katarina. Its manga adaptation by the same author and drawn by Fuji Ryosuke earned it the title of best shonen manga of the year at the 47th Kodansha Awards.
I think adapting the web novel into a manga rather than a light novel was a good decision. Another good news is that the reference work is already finished.
Many readers of the web novel have stated that the original work is indeed concluded, so there is no reason for the manga to stop mid-stream and for the anime seasons not to continue.
If you want to continue the anime from season 2, start the manga with chapter 127 .

Shangri-La Frontier follows Rakuro Hizutome, a gamer who enjoys beating the worst, buggy (“turd”) video games under his alias Sunraku.
After completing a particularly challenging game, his game store owner recommends he try Shangri-La Frontier, a popular virtual reality (VR) game.
Sunraku enters with his eagle-masked avatar, and discovers that all the skills he’s learned from playing imperfect games prove surprisingly useful in this gaming world with 30 million registered players.

The anime has officially been in production since March 2025 according to the official website anime.shangrilafrontier.com (in Japanese).
As for the exact release date of Shangri-La Frontier season 3, nothing has been revealed yet. We can only speculate between the end of this year and next year. What is certain is that our favorite gaming anime will definitely be there.
