Google announces that all new applications must target android 11 at least. What does this mean for us? Android developers around the world have certainly received an email announcing many new features appearing in February 2021. What caught our attention the most was the following message: "New apps should target Android 11 at a minimum (API level 30)." This may seem very simple and innocuous but it involves a very important action on the part of the American firm. The majority of low-end mobiles and some mid-range ones come with an android version that is difficult to update after purchase. Some brands would purposely not deliver major operating system updates to force the user to buy a new smartphone. The problem with this kind of approach is that limiting the android version used to the minimum will gradually complicate access to new applications and new versions. If all new applications target android 11 as minimum compatibility, the playstore may be closed for all owners of phones with an android version lower than 11. Owners of high-end smartphones will surely have the opportunity to update the entire OS, unlike some lower-end phones. What you can do is keep using yours while waiting to see if your laptop manufacturer will let you know about the system update. It can be done manually by going to Settings -> Software Update -> Download and Install. The phone will search if a new update is available in order to download and install it as soon as possible.
