In case you thought that Google Assistant and Alexa have gained popularity with their smart speaker lines, a new ranking is here to say the opposite. According to a recent report by market research firm Futuresource Consulting, Apple's Siri is the world's most popular virtual assistant with a 35% market share.
If that didn't surprise you, the second in the list will surprise you: - Cortana from Microsoft. The virtual assistant has a 22% market share, thanks to Microsoft's decision to ship Cortana to all Windows 10 PCs.
Google Assistant comes third with 9% market share and Alexa only represents 4% market share. Meanwhile, Baidu's DeurOS has a 15% market share in China.
Growth is currently continuing unabated as virtual assistants become a common feature in the consumer electronics and automotive industries. Indeed, 2020 will be the year when devices with the ability to perform voice commands will be sold more than those without this ability.

When it comes to the smart speaker market, there is no doubt that Siri and Cortana are lagging behind, as Google Assistant and Alexa offer superior service with relatively relevant responses to queries.
In fact, Amazon strives to stay ahead of the competition. Recently, the tech giant showcased Alexa Emotions, a feature that lets the latter express his excitement and disappointment.

While all of these virtual assistants are essentially forcing customers into an ecosystem of devices right now, the scenario may change soon as tech giants Apple, Amazon and Google work together to create an open-source standard dubbed Project Connected Home over IP (CHIP) to bring interoperability.
