The Instagram Kids project on hiatus on Instagram
Nick Clegg, vice president of global affairs at Facebook, unveiled the new initiative from Instagram aimed at teenagers. But he didn't say when the feature will be available. The framework was somewhat ambiguous, even for harmful content.
"We're going to design something that I think will make a huge difference, if our system discovers that a teenager is being exposed to the same content frequently which may not be beneficial to their well-being, we'll encourage them to watch a other content. " according to Nick Clegg on CNN about from Instagram.
He added that the Instagram Kids project is on hold. No surprises so far. Instagram already announced a few days ago. This version is intended for children under the age of 13.
This news could answer some of the concerns of whistleblower Frances Haugen. She recently claimed that Facebook knows algorithms are bad, leading young people to harmful content, and that social media only removes a fraction of hateful posts.
Frances Hagen also thinks Congress should reform Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act to increase Facebook's liability for algorithmically curated content. She also thinks that Facebook should add friction to reduce word-of-mouth for content and get users thinking about their posts instead of reflexively sharing them.
