The announcement of Path of Exile 2 raised many questions among players of this game (including me).

Will this new episode come in the form of a new game? Will we be able to transfer the data from the previous POE? What will change?

In this post, we will give you the answers based on the revelations of the game development studio.

First, what is Path of Exile?

Path of exile is a massively multiplayer online game released since 2013.

It is developed with passion and care by independent studio Grinding Gear Games based in New Zealand.

For the record, you are an Exile trying to survive on the dark continent of Wraeclast.

You fight to acquire the power necessary to exact your revenge on those who have wronged you.

Path of exile is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, GeForce Now and PC via Steam.

In this post we will give information on the continuation of the game which uses the same principle with other groups of exiles 20 years later after the event of Path of Exile.

Path of exile 2 - what you need to know if you've ever played the first one.

One game, two campaigns

Path of Exile 2 is a new 7-act storyline available alongside the original Path of Exile 1 campaign.

Both the old and new scenarios lead to the same shared endgame, the Atlas of Worlds.

Path of Exile 2 retains all of the expansion content that has been created over the past six years and introduces a new skill system, ancestry classes, engine improvements and more.

19 new ancestry classes

The characters in Path of Exile 2 are a new group of exiles who belong to the same class archetypes as those in the original game.

As such, they can choose from a set of 19 new Ascendancy classes that differ from the old ones that are still available in the Path of Exile 1 campaign.

New skill gem system

Path of Exile 2 introduces the next generation of Path of Exile's iconic skill system.

Support Gems are now integrated directly into Skill Gems, removing many of the frustrations present in the old system while retaining all of the previous depth.

It is now possible to link each skill used by your character 6 times.

All new equipment

All armor and weapon progression has been redone from start to finish, along with entirely new character models and animations.

All your old microtransactions are still compatible.
