In this tutorial, how do you create a folder or file shortcut in ubuntu. The tests were made on ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
It often happens that the simplest actions are the ones you forget the most easily when you don't practice enough. In this tutorial (which is going to be very short) i will show you how to create the shortcut to any file or folder on your system linux.
I really like to use the terminal when working under ubuntu but for creating the shortcut of a file things are not that easy. Until I discovered this very handy trick.
Tutorial to create a folder shortcut in ubuntu
Some linux distributions like linux mint offer window managers that graphically take file creation into account.
When you come to ubuntu (even the most recent version), things are not so obvious until you master the trick.
The easiest and coolest way to create a file or folder shortcut is to use the following step:
- Point the mouse at the folder or file for which you want to create the shortcut,
- press simultaneously on your keyboard the keys Ctrl + Shift,
- While maintaining the previous combination, hold the left mouse button on the file / folder then drag to the folder in which you want the shortcut to appear. You can create it in the same folder.
Basically for short, you need Ctrl + Shift and drag.
