Some linux distributions like linux mint offer window managers that graphically take file creation into account.

When you come to ubuntu (even the most recent version), things are not so obvious until you master the trick.

The easiest and coolest way to create a file or folder shortcut is to use the following step:

  • Point the mouse at the folder or file for which you want to create the shortcut,
  • press simultaneously on your keyboard the keys Ctrl + Shift,
  • While maintaining the previous combination, hold the left mouse button on the file / folder then drag to the folder in which you want the shortcut to appear. You can create it in the same folder.

Basically for short, you need Ctrl + Shift and drag.
