To start the installation of the new version, we are going to run commands that will add the repository that has a newer version of the software. Then we will update our local repository to take into account the information from the new repository.

Now open your terminal and type the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: otto-kesselgulasch / gimp sudo apt-get update

Now we can finally download the latest version of our favorite tool. As soon as the order apt-get update finished, add this line:

sudo apt-get install gimp

If you already have a gimp installation in your computer, replace the previous line with these lines:

(optional) sudo apt autoremove
sudo apt upgrade gimp

If you encounter an error, resume the script including the optional part  apt autoremove

The update should be completed after this command. You can get back to work.
